The key difference: each reading is scored against that athlete's own normal (a personal baseline), not a one-size-fits-all cut-off — so the athlete whose pain is usually 1 and is now a 4 gets flagged, while the one who always runs hot doesn't bury you in false alarms.
Today they're mostly subjective — self-reported wellness, pain and perceived exertion — and that's deliberate. Sports-science research consistently finds athlete-reported wellness is one of the most sensitive early signals of how someone is coping with training load, often flagging fatigue before objective markers do.
It's also fast, free and works on any phone with no hardware. We use validated questionnaire templates (Hooper Index, readiness, post-session) so the numbers are meaningful, and trend every athlete against their own baseline so a real change stands out from normal day-to-day noise.
Wearable integrations are in active development. Whoop, Oura, Apple Health and others are coming, to layer objective recovery data — HRV, resting heart rate, sleep — on top of the daily check-ins.
The aim isn't to replace self-report but to combine the two: subjective wellness captures how an athlete feels, objective recovery confirms how their body is actually responding — together they make a developing problem much harder to miss.
